Thomas Jefferson Primary School in Peoria, Ill. underwent an LED lighting retrofit, becoming the first school in the U.S. to be entirely lit with white-LED solid-state lighting (SSL) technology.

The retrofit is expected to reduce the school’s lighting energy load by 49% and eliminate approximately 1.76 million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions over the next ten years.

“Installing low energy, low maintenance, dimmable LED lighting systems accomplishes three goals," said Dave Ryon, District #150’s Director of Capital Programs. “They reduce operating costs of the school, they provide quality illumination for the students, and they help teach the students the importance of sustainable building. No other lighting technology can provide such a complete solution.”

Included in the renovation was the replacement of over 600 fluorescent fixtures with LED Troffers provided and installed by Albeo Technologies, Inc.  “This is a true milestone for the entire lighting industry and an indicator that LED lighting and Albeo will be leading the drive towards a sustainable future,” added Jeff Bisberg CEO of Albeo.
